Warnings about Simvastatin

This medicine may occasionally have side effects on the muscles.
Your doctor may want to do a blood test to check for signs of muscle damage.
Since Zocor may cause damage to muscle tissue, be sure to tell your doctor of any unexplained muscle tenderness, weakness, or pain right away, especially if you also have a fever or feel sick.
Your doctor may need to check for side effects on the muscles by taking a blood test to measure the level of a compound called creatine kinase (CK) in your blood.
There is insufficient information regarding the safety and efficacy of this medicine in children.

If your liver enzyme levels rise too high, your doctor may tell you to stop taking Simvastatin (Zocor).
If this is the case, the test should not be done following strenuous exercise.
For this reason you should inform your doctor immediately if you experience any unexplained muscular symptoms such as pain, tenderness, cramps or weakness while taking this medicine.
You should avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.
It is recommended that you avoid drinking excessive amounts of alcohol while taking this medicine.
